Wipe Out Gasoline Odor in Carpet

Many people have accidents spilling gasoline on their carpet or car interior. Here are a few tips on how to remove that smell from your car.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • patience
  • dawn dish soap
  • potatoes
  • coffee grounds
  • baking soda
  • can of coke
  1. Step 1

One successful method I've used is to wash the area well with dawn dish soap and towel dry. Then sprinkle dry coffee grounds on the effected area and leave them there over night. apply generously.

  2. Step 2

Other methods include cutting up a potato skins and all and placing it on the effected area over night.

  3. Step 3

Baking soda is also an effective odor remover. Sprinkle generously on to the area that smells of gas and leave over night.

  4. Step 4

If baking soda alone doesn't work and the carpet is darker in color try a mixture of coke-a-cola and baking soda and then shampoo or wash with dawn dish soap later.

Tips & Warnings
  • Always test these methods in an area that people don't see to make sure they will not discolor your carpets.
  • When working with gasoline make sure the area is well ventilated so that you do not inhale gas fumes.
