A collage is a collection of objects put together on paper or other canvas. Collages made out of leaf stamps are a way for children to not only learn about many types of leaves, but to create a distinct art piece. Create quality family time and a true learning experience with this colorful craft, and you will have a beautiful collage to hang up in your home when it is done.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Craft paints
  • Paintbrushes or sponges
  • White poster board or paper
  • Variety of leaves
  • Paper plates
  • Old newspapers or plastic
  1. Step 1

Lay some old newspapers or plastic out on your work surface, to protect it from the paint you will be using.

  2. Step 2

Collect a variety of fresh leaves from different plants, trees and flowers. Do not choose dried out leaves, as they will crumble when you handle them.

  3. Step 3

Place one color of paint on each paper plate, because you do not want your colors to mix while you apply the paint to the leaves.

  4. Step 4

Choose a leaf, and use a sponge or paintbrush to apply a thin layer of paint to its surface. Hold the leaf by the stem to avoid getting paint all over your hands.

  5. Step 5

Press the leaf onto a piece of white poster board or paper. Lay your hand flat on the unpainted side of the leaf and press down, to get a full leaf imprint on the paper.

  6. Step 6

Continue to apply paint to the leaves and stamp them on the paper until you achieve a look that you are happy with. Use the same color paint on each leaf of the same type to create a more organized looking collage.

  7. Step 7

Hang your leaf stamp collage on the fridge or wall of your home.

Tips & Warnings
  • Sprinkle some glitter on leaf stampings when they are still wet to give your leaf stamp collage a fancier look.
  • Supervise young children when they are using paint, and make sure they do not put it in their mouths.
