Orchids are an exotic and colorful choice when making wearable accessories. An orchid corsage may be worn above the chest with a corsage pin or on the wrist. Silk orchids will last longer, but real ones will give off a deep fragrance. The type of orchid you select may depend on local availability, or how far in advance you will be making the accessory. Also pick either silk or real based on available colors, as one type may be easier to match to a dress.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Three orchids of different sizes
  • Corsage filler in the form of bear grass, ivy leaves, baby's breath or corsage rose leaves
  • Corsage pin
  • White or green stem wrap floral tape
  • Floral wire
  • Scissors
  1. Step 1

Gather together the materials to make the orchid corsage. Separate the orchids into usable pieces. Trim the bottom stems of each flower, leaving about an inch of the stem.

  2. Step 2

Form a hook at the top of one piece of the floral wire. Curl the top of the wire over your finger to form the hook shape. Thread the floral wire through the center of the flower and down into the stem.

  3. Step 3

Twist the end of the wire hook around the longer end of the wire at the bottom of the flower. Twirl the wires around each other until they are tight. Cover the wire with floral tape.

  4. Step 4

Repeat Steps 2 and 3 for the other two orchids. The three final orchids with the wire and floral tape will be attached together to make a cluster.

  5. Step 5

Thread a piece of floral stub wire through the filler material. For an ivy leaf filler, thread the wire through the back of the leaf, over the stem in the center and back through the front of the leaf as if you were sewing. Make a tiny loop. Bring the wire down and twist it around the stem. Cover with floral tape.

  6. Step 6

Use the floral wire to wrap all three orchids together. Wrap the wire around the stems and wires of the other three, with the largest orchid on the top. Finish the orchid corsage with the floral tape. Attach with a ribbon for wearing on the wrist, or include a pearl-headed pin to wear the accessory above the chest.

Tips & Warnings
  • Keep real orchids refrigerated until it's time to wear the corsage.
