Things You'll Need:
- Calla Lily
- Scissors
- Foliage or Baby's Breath
- Floral tape
- Ribbon
- Pigment powder (if desired)
- Corsage pin
-
Step 1
Use one Calla Lily for each boutonnière you want to create, particularly if you're using the classic, large white variety. You also can choose mini-Calla Lilies for a more delicate design. In addition to the creamy white color, blooms are also available in colors to match your wedding décor. If you can't find suitable flowers near you, order them online (see Resources below).
-
Step 2
Clip the lily's thick stem to 3-inches long. Use the bloom "as is" for a simple and bold look or soften it by adding a few sprigs of Baby's Breath around the stem. You can wind a piece of Bear Grass loosely around the stem to coordinate it with the flower's basic look.
-
Step 3
Face the flower "forward," so you can see the swirl in the bloom. Wrap a piece of green floral tape around the stem of the Calla Lily and any greenery to keep the pieces together and conceal the cut ends. Cover the floral tape with a pretty bow or simple knot of silk ribbon (see Resources below).
-
Step 4
Dust the flower with pigment powder to give the boutonnière a subtle silver, gold or bronze sheen. Use a paintbrush to apply the powder sparingly and tap off the excess (see Resources below).
-
Step 5
Use a long corsage pin to affix the boutonnière to a lapel.
