Hyacinth flowers have a soothing, refreshing smell so it's no wonder that it's scent is common in many designer fragrances. You don't have to purchase an expensive perfume though. You can make hyacinth perfume yourself at home with some time and a few ingredients.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Pure grain alcohol, such as vodka
  • Dropper
  • Hyacinth essential oil blend
  • Tablespoon
  • Distilled or spring water
  • Glycerin
  • Glass or plastic container for storing perfume
  1. Step 1

Mix 1/4 cup of the pure grain alcohol with 5 drops of the hyacinth essential oil blend. Pour the oil a drop at a time and stir so that the oil completely disperses. Pure hyacinth essential oil is difficult to find so the best option is the essential oil blend.

  2. Step 2

Let the alcohol and hyacinth oil mixture sit for at least 48 hours or up to one month in a cool place with no direct sunlight. The longer the mixture stands, the stronger the hyacinth scent will be. So the time is really your choice and should depend on how strong you'd like your perfume to be. You can always adjust the waiting time for the next batch to suit your taste.

  3. Step 3

Add 2 tablespoons of the distilled or spring water to the alcohol and oil mixture and stir slowly. Make sure to use distilled or spring because the result is nowhere near the same with tap water. If the perfume is too strong, add more tablespoons of water until the scent is right for you.

  4. Step 4

Strain your perfume through an unused coffee filter and pour into your glass or plastic container. Keep your bottle tightly sealed when you're not using it and store it away from direct light and heat. You can find containers with sprayers at an arts and crafts store or online. Colored, vintage or retro-style bottles look great and can also be purchased online, in a thrift store or at a flea market.

Tips & Warnings
  • Hyacinth is considered a "middle" note in perfumery which is a mild smell that helps balance stronger scents when blending.
