Learn How to make homemade stewed chicken from scratch

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 1 pack of Boneless Skinless Chicken Breasts
  • Half Of Onion
  • Half Of Bell Pepper
  • 3 Stems Of Green Onion
  • 1/2 cup Of flour
  • 1 can Of Chicken Broth
  • 2 tablespoon of onion powder
  • 2 tablespoon of garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon of creole seasoning
  • 3 cups of rice
  1. Step 1

Rinse and Cut up your onion, bell pepper, and green onion into small pieces (dice them if you like)(We call this Our seasoning). Proceed to first wash your chicken to get remaining fat or slime off, cut your chicken up but don't dice it up You want the cuts to still be of nice size because they are going to cook down.

  2. Step 2

Place chicken in a pot, cover chicken with water( only add enough water to cover chicken, do not fill pot up). Add your seasoning, Also add 2 tablespoons of your onion & garlic powder and 1 tablespoon of creole seasoning . Let cook on medium fire until it starts to simmer rapidly.
Once rapid simmer starts stir, add 1 can of chicken broth stir and let cook turn your fire down to medium low. Stir and Taste to see if flavor is to your liking (Season if you prefer more seasoning) If so then turn fire down low and let gravy thicken stir occasionally to keep from sticking..

If you like really thick gravy this is where your flour comes in to play
Take 1/2 cup of flour add a small amount of warm water stir until a paste is made, Make sure your gravy is boiling while stirring pour a small amount of flour paste into gravy to at the bottom to keep flour from building up at the bottom of your pot, stir turn fire down and cover let cook down flour should cook through and thicken your gravy if flour is present then you've put too much but don't worry just use a fork to remove any excess dough that remains and let gravy continue to cook down..( flour paste will turn into dough automatically which will cook down thickening your gravy and should dissolve as it cooks down)..

  3. Step 3

    For your rice
boil a medium size pot of water add a tablespoon of salt, let water come to a boil and add 3 cups of rice and let cook for 12 mins or unit rice is soft enough to chew,
Once rice is ready strain and rinse with warm water

Your meal is now ready to be served...
Place rice in bowl or plate, place stewed chicken and gravy over rice and that's your stewed chicken. If you like you can add a side of vegetables...
    Hop you enjoy your meal...

Tips & Warnings
  • Gravy should be thick and not thin or watery
  • Take your time Don't rush through this is really quick and simple
  • You don't need flour to thicken your gravy but it helps sometimes if you added too much water to begin with...
  • You can use chicken broth only if you rather than using water
  • Creole seasoning can make your food really hot if too much is used so remember to use just a little..
  • If too much flour is used you will ruin your gravy if you're not sure use very little and go from there..
