Clothing made from natural fibers stains easier than manmade or synthetic fibers. Dirt, clay and grass molecules bond with natural fibers in clothing and create stains. Clay and red dirt often ruin clothes by staining them. Remove these stains before you put the clothing in the wash.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Spoon
  • 1 cup white vinegar
  • 3 tbsp. ionized salt
  • Bowl
  • Washcloth
  1. Step 1

Remove any caked on clay with a spoon. Run the spoon down, not across, the weave of the fabric.

  2. Step 2

Mix the vinegar and salt in a bowl. Stir continually. For large stains, use two to three mixes on the stain.

  3. Step 3

Dip a wash cloth in the vinegar and place it over the stain. Repeat this until the stain is covered.

  4. Step 4

Rub the washcloth along the weave of the fabric after the stain is saturated with the mix. Make sure the mix gets into the stain.

  5. Step 5

Wait 30 minutes for the mix to soak into the stain. Rinse the clothes in cold water and examine the stain. If the stain has set in, it may require two or three treatments.

  6. Step 6

Wash the clothes normally. Enzymatic detergent or detergents that use enzymes may lift out remaining dirt or clay molecules left on the clothing.
