How to Sew a Ringbearer Pillow
Ring bearer pillows can provide a sweet touch to a wedding ceremony, especially if the bride has nephews or young boys in the family that she would like to include. Many fabric stores carry bridal fabric that can make beautiful ring bearer pillows, as well as ribbon, rhinestones, tiny ribbon flowers, lace and even silver charms to add the finishing touches. Most brides opt for classic white for their ring bearer pillows, but you can also make them match the color of the bridesmaids’ dresses, or add colored ribbon accents.

1
Cut 2 pieces of fabric, each about 9 inches square, or 1 inch larger than you want the finished pillow. Most ring bearer pillows are square, but you can also make them rectangular, round or heart shaped.
-
2
Place the pieces of fabric right sides together and pin them together.
-
3
Stitch around the edges of the pillow using 1/4 inch seam allowance, leaving an opening about 4 inches long. Use a straight stitch if sewing by machine, or a backstitch if sewing by hand.
-
4
Turn the pillow right side out. Fill the pillow with stuffing.
-
5
Turn the edges of the opening to the inside and pin them together. Stitch the edges of the opening together by hand using a whipstitch.
-
6
Cut a piece of lace, ruffled trim or ribbon long enough to wrap around the edges of the ring bearer pillow (optional). Pin the trim to the edge of the pillow. Stitch the trim to the ring bearer pillow using a sewing machine, or a hand sewing stitch such as the whipstitch.
-
7
Add ribbon for tying the rings to the pillow by cutting a piece of ribbon long enough to tie in a bow. Hand stitch the center of the ribbon to the center of the pillow using a whipstitch.
-
8
Add any other ribbons, bows, flowers or decorations you want to the pillow.

Tips & Warnings
Make sure to start making the ring bearer pillow early enough to finish it in plenty of time for the ceremony.
If you are using fake rings for the ring bearer pillow, you may want to stitch them to the pillow to make sure they won’t fall off during the ceremony.
Use caution when working with scissors, pins, sewing machines and sewing needles.
