Things You'll Need:
- White wine
- Salt
-
Step 1
For either of these methods in removing red wine stains to work, you must act quickly, while the red wine is still wet.
-
Step 2
Fight wine with wine! Immediately pour white wine on top of the red wine stain. This works almost every time, like magic! The red wine stain should simply vanish.
-
Step 3
If a stain still remains or if you don't have white wine available, cover the red wine stain with simple table salt. The salt will absorb the red wine and washing the garment should remove the rest.

on 7/14/2008 While attending a reception someone bumped me as I lifted my glass to drink and red wine was deposited on a nice light yellow blouse. One of the wait-staff hussled me off to the kitchen and we did the following and it worked like a charm.
We held my blouse out (normally you'd remove it) over the sink and applied a liberal amount of salt - which I think attracts the pigment of the red wine. Then we pour nearly boiling water through the garment, as if it were straining the stain. And to my amazement it was gone. I've used this for spills on clothes ever since and have no ruined garments from wine. This same trick has not worked on curry. Any help with curry?

on 7/14/2008 I've tried the dishwashing detergent and peroxide and it does work. Also, if red wine is spilled, don't always assume it is the person who is drinking who spilled it. A dog can knock the glass over, a kid or baby could bump the table, or there can be an earthquake. There are any number of reasons wine could be spilled. Accidents do happen. outoftime was outofline with her comment about having had too much to drink. Geez, lighten up.
