Filipinos eat large amounts of rice, with small servings of the main dish. Leftover rice then makes great garlic fried rice for breakfast. Serves one hungry person or two not-so-hungry people.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Salt
  • 3 garlic cloves
  • 3 c. cooked white rice

Step1
Heat 3 tbsp. cooking oil in a wok or large pan on medium-high heat.
Step2
Add garlic and sauté for 30 seconds.
Step3
Add the rice and toss frequently for 1 minute.
Step4
Sprinkle with about 1 tsp. salt.
Step5
Cook rice on low for about 5 to 10 minutes, and toss rice occasionally.

Tips & Warnings

  • Serve with scrambled eggs cooked with diced tomatoes and sliced onions. Or serve with sausage, bacon, fried egg, or cooked, dried fish.
  • For variation, add leftover sliced meat and vegetables to the rice while cooking.

on 11/22/2005 If you've got left over oil used for frying bacon or Langonisa (sweet Filipino sausage) use that instead of plain vegetable oil to add more flavor. Also, adding frozen peas, beaten egg, and onion while frying is great too.
