A garden is not merely an extension of your house; it is a separate entity all in itself. When planning the location of your garden, stand with your back to the house and apply the rules of the Five Animals.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Garden Trowels
  • Gardening Gloves
  • Plant Seeds
  • Planting Flats
  • Shovels
  • Trees
  • Colored Pencils
  • Graph Papers
  • Shovels
  1. Step 1

Use the wall of the house as the tortoise that protects the rear of the garden.

  2. Step 2

Place trees close to the front of the garden on the dragon side (the left side).

  3. Step 3

Place low bushes and flower beds on the tiger side (right side) of the garden.

  4. Step 4

Keep the phoenix aspect, or front side, of the garden free and open.

  5. Step 5

Place ponds at the front of the house and never in the back.

  6. Step 6

Keep the garden (or gardens) separate and avoid trying to use every space available in the yard.

Tips & Warnings
  • Remember, the central fixture of the garden is the snake, the tortoise protects the rear, the dragon is high and to your left, the tiger is low and to your right, and finally, the phoenix flies way out in front.
  • Take into consideration the relationship between shapes and the Five Energies when designing your garden. L shapes and concave curves absorb energy, while convex curves deflect energy.
