Step 1
Determine the number of drywall boards you will need to complete the project. Measure the walls and ceiling to obtain the total area. Then decide which size drywall board will work best.
-
Step 2
Make a sketch of the room to double check that the dimensions and drywall needs are correct. It is much easier to correct mistakes on paper than it is after you purchase the drywall products. You do not have to have any real artistic skills to do this, just the ability to draw a straight line.
-
Step 3
Calculate the number of drywall boards you need for the drywall project. The number will be higher the smaller the drywall board's dimensions.
-
Step 4
Multiply the number of drywall boards by the size of drywall boards you are using. There is a general rule of thumb that says for every 200 feet of drywall surface you will need a gallon of taping compound. For example, if you have 800 feet of drywall surface you would need 4 gallons of compound. This is an estimate; it also depends on the amount of wasted compound during the project.
