If the glue has already dried on the carpet, try trimming the top layer of the pile with scissors.

Make sure the room is well ventilated. The fumes from the Goof-Off are overwhelming.

Our church was putting down carpet and a worker tracked green carpet glue over the carpet (it wasn't noticed till the next day). We were able to remove the glue with a product called Goof-Off. We just wet the corner of a rag and scrubbed it off. Worked great!

I had glue on carpet, an old stain about 2 in. wide, and cutting it out wasn't an option. I got a large bottle of vinegar, poured it on the carpet, let it soak, and used an upholstery tool to suck it up. It totally dissolved the glue. Looks good as new.
