How to Crochet Baby Mittens

Babies have tiny fingernails, and it's hard to keep them cut back. Sometimes babies accidentally scratch their faces. Here is a pattern for mittens to cover the babies hands and protect their faces from scratches. Use yellow, white and blue color yarn, or any combination of colors you want. Read on to learn how to crochet baby mittens.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Size G crochet hook
  • Color A yarn
  • Color B yarn
  • Color C yarn
Step1
Take a G crochet hook and the A color yarn and chain 15. Slip stitch into the first chain to form a ring. Chain three, which counts as the first double crochet and double crochet in each stitch around. Slip stitch in the top of the chain three and finish off. You should have 15 double crochet.
Step2
Take the B color yarn and single crochet between any two double crochet. Single crochet between each double crochet all the way around and slip stitch in the first single crochet. There should be 15 single crochets. Chain one, which counts as the first single crochet,*single crochet in the first single crochet, two single crochet in the next single crochet. Repeat from * around and slip stitch in the first single crochet. Chain one, single crochet in each single crochet around and slip stitch in the first single crochet. Chain one, single crochet in each single crochet around and slip stitch in the first single crochet. Chain one, three single crochet, single crochet, two single crochet together. Repeat from * around and slip stitch in the first single crochet.
Step3
Chain one, two single crochet, single crochet, two single crochet together. Repeat from * around and slip stitch in the first single crochet. Chain one, one single crochet, single crochet, two single crochet together. Repeat from * around and slip stitch in the first single crochet. Chain one, two single crochet, crochet two single crochet together. Repeat from * around and slip stitch in first single crochet. Fasten off, leaving a long enough tail to sew the mitten together. Sew up the seam.
Step4
Take the color C yarn and single crochet between any two double crochet on the bottom of the color A section. Single crochet between each double crochet all the way around and slip stitch in the first single crochet. There should be 15 single crochet. Chain one, which counts as the first single crochet, single crochet in the first two single crochet, chain three to form a picot and slip stitch in same space. Repeat from * around and slip stitch in first single crochet. Fasten off. To make the ties, take the color B yarn, chain 50 and fasten off. Weave the chain around the color A section. Weave in all the ends.
