Instructions

    • 1

Design invitations using a "before" picture of the party girl in smudged up makeup and with rollers in her hair. Invite the guests to a make-over party at your "salon". Tell the guests to wear their favorite party dress to the party.

Decorate with signs on the front door stating that the "Salon Is Open". Then put signs on doors of rooms for the "Nail Salon", "Hair Salon" and "Makeup Salon". Set up each area with the items needed such as a variety of nail polishes, sparkly makeup and lipsticks, combs and hair clips. Decorate the craft table and dining table in pink table covers.

Hire older neighborhood girls to be the "beauticians". Have a few girls doing hair and a couple more doing makeup and nails so that all the guests are busy. Set up a waiting area with children's books and magazines to keep the guests entertained while waiting for their next make-over service.

Serve pink cake with pink lemonade. Decorate a cake with a small round mirror surrounded by pink frosting. Serve the lemonade out of a punch bowl.

    • 5

Play games. For a fun, fashionable game have the girls compete in a fashion relay. Divide them into two teams. One at a time, have each girl race to a pile of clothes and accessories and picks up one item. She then runs back to the start and puts the item on the next girl. That girl runs to the pile of clothes and accessories and adds one item to it. The game goes on until the last girl on one team has put on all the clothes and accessories.

Make pictures frames. For a fun craft, have the girls craft picture frames. Before the party, purchase colorful foam craft sheets. Cut out the center to fit a 4 x 6 photo. Have the girls decorate the frames with rhinestones, glitter and puffy paint.

    • 7

Stage a fashion show. Let one of your helpers be the emcee (a karaoke machine works well for this). Hang a silver curtain from a door for the girls to walk through onto a red carpet. Play music such as Madonna's "Vogue" while the girls walk down the red carpet and strike a pose. Have the emcee comment on their makeovers while the host takes pictures.

Give the girls party favors in makeup bags purchased from a dollar store. Include nail files, lip gloss, combs, jewelry and sunglasses.

    • 9

Send thank you notes, with an "after" shot of the birthday girl and a photo of the guest working the catwalk in the fashion show.

Tips & Warnings

  • To thank your helpers, give them gift certificates to a store that sells bath and beauty products.

  • Do not share applicators/products during the make-overs. When doing hair and makeup, be sure to use a different comb or brush for each girl. Also use disposable make-up sponges and cotton swabs when applying makeup.
