Distinguish what you want to accomplish by writing down your objective. Do you want to pay off a few bills or find permanent work? Is this extra work or are you looking at replacing your current job? Once you have your objective in place, figuring out what to look for becomes easier.

Deliver pizzas or newspapers as an extra job. Before you do this though, ask yourself if you mind wearing a pizza delivery uniform or getting up at four o’clock in the morning to deliver papers. You may consider this below you and, if that’s the case, you are going to need to be very creative in your search for additional employment. If you don’t mind this type of work, plot out the main street in your city, make a list of all the stores and companies you would consider working at and get the addresses of each. If they are a large chain, check to see if they only accept applications over the internet. If that is the case, fill one out for each store.

If this type of work doesn’t suit you, prepare a resume and go to your local newspaper employment opportunities section. Most newspapers now have more online than actually in print, so be sure to visit online job sites such as Monster and Career Builder add your criteria to narrow down your search.

Pursue your passion by submitting applications to various blogs or WebPages that specialize in information about your work, if you don’t want to have a public job and you don’t really want a career change. Be careful of scams. You could prepare manuals, offer your consulting abilities, submit photos or art if that is what you are passionate about. There are many choices, but the most important thing for you to do is take what you can get and build on that until you are better known in the online community. You will be surprised how small the community actually is.

If you still haven’t found what you are looking for, develop your passion into a money making opportunity. If you know about plants for instance, circulate through local businesses and offer to take care of their indoor plants for a nominal fee. If you get enough of these gigs, your crisis is over. The most important thing you can do for yourself is enjoy what you choose to supplement your regular income.
