Instructions

    • 1

Blot the stain with a towel if it's fresh. Be sure to blot and not rub so it doesn't spread the stain.

    • 2

Pour some club soda onto a clean portion of the towel and blot the stain.

    • 3

Sprinkle some salt onto the stain and let it soak as much of it up as it can.

    • 4

Launder the clothing or fabric as usual. Inspect the clothing to make sure the stain is gone before placing in the dryer.

Tips & Warnings

  • As an alternative, try soaking the stain in one part white vinegar and two parts water, then launder.

While attending a reception someone bumped me as I lifted my glass to drink and red wine was deposited on a nice light yellow blouse. One of the wait-staff hussled me off to the kitchen and we did the following and it worked like a charm. We held my blouse out (normally you'd remove it) over the sink and applied a liberal amount of salt - which I think attracts the pigment of the red wine. Then we pour nearly boiling water through the garment, as if it were straining the stain. And to my amazement it was gone. I've used this for spills on clothes ever since and have no ruined garments from wine. This same trick has not worked on curry. Any help with curry?
