Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 4 oz. yarn
  • Size H crochet hook
  1. Step 1

Chain 5 and join with the chain with a slip stitch to form a ring. Chain 3 to count as the first double crochet. Make a total of 15 double crochet into the ring. End the round by slip-stitching to the chain-three stitch you made at the beginning of the round.

  2. Step 2

Start the second round by chaining 3. This counts as the first double crochet. Do two double crochet into each stitch from the previous round, for a total of 30 double crochet. End the round with a slip stitch to the chain-three stitch you made at the beginning of the round.

  3. Step 3

Replace the first double crochet with 3 chain stitches, and do 1 double crochet in the first stitch. Do 1 double crochet in the next 3 stitches, then 2 double crochet in the following stitch. Continue alternating 3 double crochet in the next 3 stitches, followed by 2 double crochet in the next stitch, all the way around. End round 3 with a slip stitch to the chain-three stitch from the beginning of the round.

  4. Step 4

Do the fourth through sixth rounds in the following way: chain 3 and do 1 double crochet in the first stitch. Then, make 1 double crochet in the next 4 stitches, followed by 2 double crochet in the the stitch after that. Continue alternating 4 double crochet in the next 4 stitches, followed by 2 double crochet in the next stitch, all the way around. End each round with a slip stitch to the chain-three stitch you made at the beginning of the round.

  5. Step 5

Complete the seventh and eighth rounds by chaining 3 and doing 1 double crochet in the first stitch. Then, do 1 double crochet in the next 8 stitches, followed by 2 double crochet in the stitch after that. Continue alternating 8 double crochet in the next 8 stitches, followed by 2 double crochet in the next stitch, all the way around. End each round with a slip stitch to the chain-three stitch you made at the beginning of the round.

  6. Step 6

Make the ninth through eleventh rounds by chaining 3 and doing 1 double crochet in each stitch around. End each round with a slip stitch to the chain-three stitch at the beginning of the round.

  7. Step 7

Create the twelfth through fifteenth rounds by chaining 3 and doing 1 double crochet in the first stitch. Do 1 double crochet in the next 6 stitches, then do 1 decrease double crochet using the next two stitches. Repeat 6 double crochet, followed by 1 decrease double crochet, all the way around. End each round with a slip stitch to the chain-three stitch at the beginning of the round.

  8. Step 8

Continue working around and decreasing in the same way until the hat fits your head. Finish the crochet hat by chaining 1 and working single crochet into each stitch around. Work 2 to 6 rounds of single crochet to create a finished edge or a thicker band. Cut the yarn and weave in the end.

Tips & Warnings
  • You can adjust the width of this Rasta hat, making it more floppy, by adding more rounds like 7 and 8.
  • You can adjust the length of this crochet hat by adding more rounds like rounds 9 to 11.
