How to Sew slippers

These slippers are easy to make and are a great craft for kids. Does this Spark an idea?

Things You'll Need

  • Thick foam cardboard
  • Fabric: 35 inches x 20 inches
  • Binding
  • Needle
  • Thread
  • Binding -1/2 inch

Instructions

  1. Slippers

    • 1

      Trace around both of your feet on the cardboard.

      Cut out the drawings.

    • 3

      Place the cardboard on the fabric and cut four pieces in the shape of the cardboard.

      Place each cardboard piece in between two pieces of fabric and stitch around the edges.

      Cut two 18 inch x 4 inch pieces of fabric for the straps and press in half lengthways. Stitch along the edges.

    • 6

      Place straps crossways on each foot piece and stitch along edges.

    • 7

      Stitch binding along the outer edges of each foot piece.

    I think the straps must go across the top of the slipper, and at 18" long they must be intended to tie on top of the foot. The binding would be to encase the raw edges around the edge of the slipper. But with the cardboard inside they won't be washable. Several layers of fabric or quilt batting could be substituted and you could toss them in laundry. Jan

    This just does not make sense. Tell me what the "straps" do and what the binding does. There is a sole and then the is the strap and the binding. No top to the things?
