For a special Father's Day gift, write your dad a love letter telling him just how much you care. After all, dads need love too. Maybe your father was not the perfect dad, but chances are that he did his best and made an investment of time, money and emotion in your life. So create a one-of-a-kind card to warm his heart and show your respect.
Prepare to write your letter longhand. This will be more personal than using a word processor.
Make a list of three of your father's best qualities. These are traits you like or respect most about him. Next, list your favorite memory. This could be from the distant past or more recent, but it should be a memory your father might not know you cherish. Last, list three ways your father has improved your life. These could be examples of kindness or how he has always been there for you.
Address your letter. This is not a physical address for mailing, but the name you use to express your love. Open your letter using your favorite pet name for your dad. For example, you might write, "Dear Daddy," "To my Sweet Papa" or even simply "Father."
Tell dad what your Father's Day love letter is all about. For example, you might write, "I wanted to write you a letter to tell you how much I love you. You've always been a great father to me. I want to tell you how much I appreciate you and the wonderful memories I have of our times together."
Refer to your list of your favorite Dad qualities in the next paragraph. Write a sentence for each one and follow it with a sentence about how much that quality means to you. For example, you might write, "You have always been a kind and patient father. Even when I tried your patience, you never stopped loving and supporting me. "Write one pair of sentences for each of the qualities on your list. Together, these pairs will be your second paragraph.
Write a brief description of the favorite memory you listed for the third paragraph. Name the memory. Tell him how you felt during the event. Tell him how you feel about it now. Thank him.
For example, you could write, "I will always remember the time you took me to the circus. I felt so special having that time alone with you. When I think back to that time, I still feel the love you shared with me. Thank you for taking the time to show me I was important to you." You can be as detailed as you like.
Write a pair of sentences in the fourth paragraph for each of the ways he has improved your life. Remember, as a Father's Day gift, nothing is better than showing your dad how his fathering has helped you.
For example, you might tell him, "You never failed to support me no matter what I tried to accomplish. You gave me the confidence to pursue my dreams." Or, "Even when I disobeyed and let you down, you were always patient with me. Your example taught me how to be a better parent to my own children." .
Write a sentence thanking your dad again in the fifth paragraph. Then add a second sentence wishing him a happy Father's Day.
For example, you might write, "I will always be grateful for the love and kindness you have shown me throughout the years. I hope you have a wonderful Father's Day."
Sign your letter with your father's favorite nickname for you.
