Things You'll Need:
- 3-4 potatoes
- seasoning salt
- garlic salt or powder
- pepper
- ground beef (27/73)
- Green Pepper
- Onion
- Foil
- Knife
- Potato Peeler
- Cutting Board
- Mixing Bowl
- (optional) corn/peas/carrots
-
Step 1
Preheat your oven to 450 degrees
-
Step 2
Rinse and peel 3 or 4 potatoes depending on the size. This article explains how to make "hobo dinners" for 2 people, you may need more for more servings.
-
Step 3
Cut the potatoes into just about 1/2 inch squares. (this ensures that they will cook thoroughly) Place them into the mixing bowl when you are finished.
-
Step 4
Remove the skin of the onion and cut it in half. (you can use more or less onion depending on your taste) I use large slices of onion because I prefer to take them out before I eat the meal, but you may prefer smaller slices. Place the onions into the mixing bowl with the potatoes.
-
Step 5
This is about the size of the slices I use.Cut the Green Pepper into large or small slices depending on your taste as well. (I use larger slices for them, too.) Place the green peppers into the mixing bowl with the potatoes and onions.
-
Step 6
Form hamburger sized patties with the ground beef. I use the 27/73 ground beef because it helps to have a little bit of grease to cook the meat and potatoes thoroughly, plus it's more flavorful that way.
-
Step 7
Tear off two sheets of foil and place them onto the counter. About 14 inches in length.
-
Step 8
Place the hamburger patties onto the center of each sheet and season to your liking. I use garlic salt and seasoning salt.
-
Step 9
Fold the sides of the foil to form small pouches for each patty.
-
Step 10
Season the potatoes, onions, and green peppers to your liking as well. I use garlic salt and pepper. Place half of your mix into one pouch and the other half into the other one.
*note: optional extra - corn, carrots, peas... you would add these ingredients now. -
Step 11
Place the pouches onto a cookie sheet or a rectangular baking pan, and place into the preheated oven for 40-45 minutes. (depending on your oven)
-
Step 12
Take them out and serve!!

on 2/9/2009 Mmmm. Sounds good. We used to make something very similar to this and cook them in the campfire. Very clearly written.
