1
Choose a couple of large bowls for mixing. Some recipes call for a separate bowl to beat the egg whites, melt chocolate or mix dry ingredients separate from the wet ingredients.
-
2
Select a whisk for aerating, a spatula for folding and spreading and a couple of wooden spoons for mixing. Choose a variety of wooden spoons in different lengths and shapes.
-
3
Buy dry and liquid measuring cups. Baking recipes require accuracy, and you'll need both for most recipes.
-
4
Look for a variety of good quality baking pans. It depends on what you want to bake, but most recipes call for a few standard pans. You might want to start with a 1-lb. loaf pan, an 8-inch round and 8-inch square baking pan, a 13-by-9 inch baking pan and a couple of cookie sheets.

Remember to have a couple of heat resistant potholders on hand for removing those fresh baked items from the oven. Buy a flour sifter, pastry blender and rolling pin if you're thinking of making pie crust or other types of pastries.

6
Review your recipe to see if you have the necessary baking utensils on hand and buy them as you need them to avoid purchasing unnecessary supplies.

Tips & Warnings
You can mix most things by hand, but a mixer makes the work much easier. It's a good investment, and you'll probably use it more than any other appliance in your kitchen, especially if you bake often.
