How to Decorate Using Wall Sconces

  1. Step 1

Determine how you want to use wall sconces to decorate your home.

  2. Step 2

Decide on the type and size of wall sconces that you want to use. Today, there are a variety of different types on the market including metal, ceramic, plaster, polyresin, wood, and others. Some are heavier in weight than others and may, therefore, have an impact on your final decision. Some can be painted, stained, textured, or otherwise decorated while others may come ready to use or may not lend themselves to additional decoration. This may also have an impact on your final decision regarding the type of wall sconce you choose.

  3. Step 3

If you don't already have them on hand, go out and purchase the wall sconces you want.

  4. Step 4

Decorate sconces with greenery and/or flowers to add a touch of elegance to any room in your home.

  5. Step 5

Use a wall sconce to help accent artwork on a wall.

  6. Step 6

Use a wall sconce to help set a wonderful candlelight mood.

  7. Step 7

Add glassware to a wall sconce for color and pizazz.

  8. Step 8

Use a wall scounce to set off a knick knack or figurine.

  9. Step 9

Set family photos on wall sconce.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you don't have a lot of money to spend on sconces, look at yard sales and thrift stores.
  • If you can't find exactly what you want in a sconce, purchase an unfinished one from a craft store and decorate it to suit your room.
  • Cluster sconces together to create your own unique grouping that can help set off a prized collection.
  • Be sure to use the appropriate wall hangers for the weight and size of your chosen wall sconce.
  • Attach heavy wall sconces on wall studs whenever possible.
