How to Celebrate National Magic Day
National Magic Day is celebrated October 31 in honor of Harry Houdini. The great magician Houdini died on Halloween in 1926. The Society of American Magicians, known for its professional and charitable works, promotes public events and exhibits for the week leading up to this day. 1
Read about magicians and illusionists. Choose a biography on Houdini or another magician. These men and women often took dangerous chances to hold audiences enthralled. Some magicians used illusion and others used physical strength and agility to accomplish amazing tasks.

2
Pick a Card
Study magic for this day. You can easily learn a magic trick. Information on tricks can be found in library books, toy stores and Internet magic sites. Choose a card trick, cup and ball trick or coin trick. Master your trick and take your bow as an amateur magician.

3
Surprise your trick-or-treaters. Get magic props such as wands for your family to use when they greet candy-seekers. A device called a ball dropper can be concealed in a sleeve or coat to drop hidden candy down the sleeve and into the palm for treat giving. Wear eyeglasses with static clings like ghosts. Put on a cape and hide candy in pockets so trick-or-treaters must choose a magic pocket for their reward.

4
Host a magic class for friends. Invite local magicians to perform and teach the audience a few tricks. Or invite each guest to come with one or two simple tricks or props to share at the party. Some props, like Slush Gel that instantly turns a hot or cold liquid to a gel, are funny and educational.

Rent a movie featuring a famous illusionist such as David Copperfield or Doug Henning. The key to celebrating National Magic Day and every day was given by Doug Henning. Henning said, "Anything the mind can conceive is possible. Nothing is impossible. All you have to do is look within and you can realize your fondest dreams. I would like to wish each one of you all of life's wonders and a joyful age of enlightenment."
