1
Follow the washing instructions on the tag of your comforter to machine wash it. Pay close attention to the temperature setting and the cycle to use. Most will do just fine in a regular wash, but some may require the delicate cycle, depending on the material and style of the comforter.
-
2
Add your favorite fabric softener to the rinse cycle. Scent plays a big roll in comfort when it comes to cuddling up on a cool winter evening. Make sure the scent is one that you enjoy up close and personal.

3
Following the washing and drying instructions, set the dryer on the appropriate heat cycle. The regular heat cycle should be fine, but always check the tag to be sure.
-
4
Add a clean tennis shoe to the dryer with the comforter. As the dryer spins, the tennis shoe will serve to agitate the comforter and cause the down to fluff up as it dries.
-
5
Remove from dryer when it is completely dry. Removing a damp comforter will cause the tiny down feathers to stick together and you will undoubtedly have a lumpy comforter.
-
6
Snuggle up with your freshly washed comforter and enjoy the cozy feel of the fluffy down filling.

Tips & Warnings
If the tennis shoe causes the dryer door to pop open, simply tape it shut or prop it shut with a chair.
