How to Hang Wall Pennants

Ray Robert Green/Demand Media

Show your team spirit by proudly displaying wall pennants of your favorite teams on a bedroom or den wall. As you collect wall pennants for hanging, hang them in a way that will not damage the wall or the material of the pennants. When you use a special poster adhesive, you can easily rearrange the pennants as you add more and even remove them whenever you desire without damaging any surfaces.

Things You'll Need:

  • Feather duster
  • Microfiber cloths
  • Household cleaner
  • Wall pennants
  • Repositionable poster strips or poster putty

Tip

Walls must be free from dirt and grime for adhesives to stick to them, otherwise the adhesive material will fall off.

If you prefer the convenience and portability of poster putty but it will not stick to the back of a felt pennant, glue a strip of paper onto the back of the pennant first and stick the putty on the paper. Poster putty is designed for paper usage.

Masking tape, folded into a loop, also holds up lightweight pennants and can be removed from the wall.

Hook-and-loop tape made for walls (so it will not damage the surface) is another option to hang pennants in place.

Dust the wall with a feather duster or microfiber cloth. Wipe the surface down with a household cleaner on a cloth to remove remaining residue. Allow wall to dry completely.

Gather your wall pennants and decide how you wish to hang them on the wall. Arrange them by sport or by team on the wall. You can always rearrange them later if you wish.

Remove the adhesive backing from one side of one poster-mounting strip and position it in the upper corner on the back of a pennant. Place another mounting strip in each of the other corners of the pennant. Add a mounting strip in the center, if you desire. If using poster putty, stick the putty onto the back of the pennant in the desired locations. Putty may not adhere to all types of pennant material.

Peel away the remaining adhesive backing from the mounting strips and press the pennant onto the wall in the desired location. If using poster putty, feel free to reposition the pennant as necessary until you have it at the desired angle and position. Poster adhesive strips may lose their stickiness if repositioned more than a few times.

Repeat Steps 3 and 4 to add the remaining pennants to the wall.

Reposition the pennants by simply pulling them from the wall and placing them in a different location as necessary.
