Everyone loves a classic leather kangaroo shoe. It’s sophisticated, matches with virtually any outfit and often uncomfortable. Kangaroo leather is the most resistant to scuffs and wear and tear, so if not properly broken in before a night out, it can leave toes and heels with blisters and bruises. But with a few easy steps, you’ll be sure to turn heads all night comfortably.

Instructions

Leather shoes are always extra hard and very stiff, so it’s important to understand your shoe’s resistant level. This will in turn help you understand how much work is needed. To do this, you must first manually stretch the shoe. Hold the shoe from the bottom and knead it back and forth to loosen the sole. This flexes the shoe and even expands the leather.

Again, wearing kangaroo leather is all about finding your comfort level, so it is encouraged to wear them around the house with thick athletic socks for a few days (or if time is limited a few hours) This continues the stretch process and gets your foot used to the wear of the shoe.

Still can't break in your shoe? Head to your nearest shoe repair store or Target and snag a shoe stretcher. This snazzy device helps stretch even the tightest shoes. Most retail for about $15.00 so try to exercise all your options before spending the often unnecessary cash. Have fun!

Tips & Warnings

  • When kneading the sole, be careful not to break it. Some soles are very fragile and if handled roughly, it can easily break in half. Obviously this isn’t your goal, so be proactive and handle your shoe with care.

  • Shoe stretchers can be purchased as singles, and will stretch both the left and right shoe.

  • Start the breaking in process a 3 to 4 days before the designated “wearing day.” This will ensure that the shoe is at the ideal comfort level. Starting the process well in advance also gives you time to return the shoe if need be.
