Fried shrimp are not only tasty, they are surprisingly easy to make. They can be cooked up as a quick appetizer, or served with a few side items to make a complete meal. This guide provides an easy recipe for frying your own shrimp.
Things You'll Need
- Fresh or frozen shrimp (de-veined)
- Cooking oil
- Fry Pan
- Seafood Breader
How To Fry Shrimp
If you are using frozen shrimp, thaw them overnight in the refrigerator or by briefly soaking them in cool water.
Peel and de-vein the shrimp. Fresh shrimp are usually de-veined before purchase. However if yours are not, simply cut a shallow slit along the back of the shrimp and remove the darkly covered "vein" that runs down the length of the body.
Once you have peeled and de-veined the shrimp, add one cup of milk to a large bowl and toss the shrimp in the milk to moisten them.
Pour approximately one cup of seafood breader onto a large plate. After removing them from the milk, roll them in the seafood breader until well coated. Alternatively the seafood breader may be place into a bag, with the shrimp added in--shake until coated well.
Preheat one-half to three-quarters cup of oil in medium fry pan. The oil should be hot, but not smoking.
Add the shrimp to the hot oil, and cook until well done, roughly four to five minutes.
Remove the fried shrimp from the oil, and drain on paper towels. Serve hot.
