Make a Hair-Product Gift Basket

There are many variations to making a hair-product-themed basket, and a self-designed custom basket for someone special can be created easily and inexpensively or with a bit more effort and money. The latter is best put together when more than one person or family is contributing to it financially.Either way, a hair-product-themed basket will be a welcome and much appreciated gift. It’s perfect for a teacher, a friend, a relative, a scout leader.

Things You'll Need:

  • basket or bin
  • base (hair turban, extra absorbent hair towel, bathtowel, tissue paper or raffia)
  • hair product items
  • large piece of tulle or cellophane

How to Make a Hair-Product Gift Basket

  1. Step 1

Choose the size of basket or container you want to use.A fun alternative to a handled or non-handled basket is a colorful plastic bin that can hold all the giftee's regular hair-products and can be carried from under the sink to the shower or bath, or in the case of dorm-living students, one they can bring to the communal bathroom. You can also use a large format canvas tote bag, one that might be taken to the beach. A container can also be pretty and practical

  2. Step 2

What to put in the gift basket? Consider the products you want to include based on who you're gifting. Is it for a man? Woman? Teenager? Does the person have short hair? Long Hair? Curly Hair? Straight Hair?

  3. Step 3

Specific basket items: The items you choose can come from a local drug store or Target or can be from Sephora or a high-end department store. You can even get items from lines like Frederic Fekkai. Whichever price range you go for, you can still create a gorgeous basket.

  4. Step 4

Most people like the idea of using products all from the same manufacturer. For some of the most popular, albeit expensive, items, a store like Ultima or Sephora will carry awe-inspiring items. But if you have a smaller budget, the very nature of a gift basket is so attractive and appreciated that the giftee will be thrilled. For example, you can put together all Oscar Blandi or Bliss or Prive hair products, but you can also put in all Herbal Essence and the basket will still be beautiful. The key is to try and gear the products to the person's type of hair. You can put in some or all of the following items: shampoo, conditioner, detangler, dry-hair brush (if you have a bigger budget, you can give the best, the Mason-Pearson hairbrush; if not, a Conair works well, too), wet-hair brush, shine gloss serum, hair mask for intensive condition, hair spray, candles and small fabric gift back of hair barrettes, clips, etc..

  5. Step 5

If you have a bigger budget, you can incorporate these:a curling or straightening iron (the hottest types today are ceramic, tourmaline, ionic; there are also for dry hair or wet-to-dry)a gift certificate for a haircut with a popular hair stylista pair of professional grade hair cutting shears (for touch ups)a blow dryer (the kind with a bonnet is great for deep conditioning; the hand held is used for styling)

  6. Step 6

Arrange in the basket, heaviest (think bottles or jar of product) at the bottom, lightest on top.

  7. Step 7

Once the items are arranged, you can present as is, or you can use a large piece of tulle or colored cellophane, place underneath the basket, lift the sides and arrange ends at the top. Finish with a tied pretty fabric ribbon or raffia. Another nice touch would be to use an elastic or ribbon hair band.

Tips & Warnings
  • Personalize this basket to the receiver's hair, as much as you can.
  • Remember that scent of shampoo/condition, etc can be very theraputic
  • Be creative. There is no "right" or "wrong" way to design a hair-product-themed gift basket.
  • Have fun with it
  • Try to find out if they have any allergies so you're assured in not giving them items they can't use.
