  1. Step 1

Fill the pot 2/3 full with water. Do not overfill or the water will overflow while the pasta is boiling.

  2. Step 2

Set water on the stove on medium-high and let it warm to boiling. You may wish to add a little salt for flavor and to keep the water down.

  3. Step 3
Hold the pasta carefully in the water for a few seconds to allow it to become more flexible.

Add the pasta to the pot and boil for 10 minutes. Do not break the pasta when you place it in the pot. Let it bend as it warms in the water.

  4. Step 4

Heat a large pat of butter in the frying pan. When the butter is runny but not hissing or bubbling, move on to the next step.

  5. Step 5

Saute the shrimp and scallops in butter for about 5 minutes. The shrimp will begin to turn pink after about five minutes, which means they are starting to cook. Stir the seafood continuously to prevent uneven cooking or scorching.

  6. Step 6
Many people leave the tails on the shrimp so that they may be eaten with fingers or forks.

Add the mushrooms, tomatoes and onions. Continue stirring all the ingredients together. If you wish to also add more butter at this point, do so. The onions will become transparent as they cook.

  7. Step 7

Add butter, soy sauce and hot sauce to taste. Add these ingredients incrementally in small quantities to make sure that you do not overseason. Taste the dish periodically as you work.

  8. Step 8

Drain the spaghetti. Make sure that all of the water is drained before you move on to the next step.

Place the spaghetti in the serving bowl.If the pasta fills the bowl more than 2/3 full, hold some of it back.

  10. Step 10

Pour the seafood mix over the pasta. Do not drain the sauce, as it will season and moisten the pasta.

  11. Step 11

Sprinkle the entire dish with Parmesan cheese. You can use the cheese as garnish or as a meal component depending on your preferences.
