How to Decorate a Room With a St. Louis Cardinals Theme

Decorating your entire home with colors of the St. Louis Cards would be overwhelming, but there's no reason not to celebrate this 11-time world champion team in at least one room. Use the Cardinals uniform colors of red and white, with accents of navy blue from the lettering and yellow from the bat. Before you begin, decide whether you want to blend bits and pieces of the team into a room's decor in an understated way, or if you want to go all-out and use Cardinals colors throughout the room.

Bedrooms for Children

  • While red walls are not a good idea for your child's bedroom -- the energizing color can be too stimulating -- a red Cardinals bedspread adds just the right amount of color. Decorate the walls with posters of your child's favorite player, perhaps catcher Yadier Molina from the 2014 season, and a few Cardinals pennants or banners. Add a shelf full of Cardinals bobblehead dolls, including 2014 pitcher Adam Wainwright or outfielder Matt Holliday, and attach Cardinals patches to pillows and curtains for just the right amount of red, white, navy and yellow.

Living Rooms

  • If you don't have a separate family room to decorate, you may want to use Cardinals decor in a more subtle way in your living room than you would in a child's bedroom, setting out the bright red and gold blankets and pillows only on game days. Limit paraphernalia to an autographed baseball for the mantle and a tastefully framed photo of Hall of Fame outfielder Stan "The Man" Musial, or the historic Busch Stadium. These pieces of vintage memorabilia make a stylish choice, according to designer Betsy Burnham of Burnham Design in Los Angeles.

Dens and Family Rooms

  • Since a family room is by definition a place for casual relaxing, your Cardinals decor can be more obvious than it would be in a more formal living room. A large banner, vintage or otherwise, adds a Cardinals focus to the room. Add smaller touches around the room that will show your spirit, but that won't overwhelm the space, such as pillows with Cardinals patches sewn on and a rack or shelf for Cardinals baseball hats.

Kitchen Decor

  • Cardinals plates, cups and glasses are natural team decor for the kitchen. Create a display of these items on an open shelf or use plate hangers for a Cardinals decorative plate hung in a prominent position. A cardinal bird has been used on Cardinals uniforms since 1922, when the team was called the Browns, and deserves a place in any Cardinals decor. Cards uniforms now feature two birds, so perch one on a counter shelf and attach another to a wall calendar, or nestled in a fruit bowl.
