Artificial firewood is used as a starter to make real wood hot and dry enough to burn on its own. It may also be used to add an atmosphere of coziness or romance to a room. It is easy to light and begins to burn instantly. Follow these steps to use artificial firewood.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Clean your fireplace before burning artificial firewood. If the fireplace is filled with soot and debris, you put yourself at risk for a chimney fire. Make sure to get your chimney cleaned regularly as well.

  2. Step 2

Decide on what size artificial firewood you want to use in your fireplace. The small artificial logs will burn for up to 2 hours. The larger artificial logs can burn up to 4 hours.

  3. Step 3

Tear open the ends of the flammable bag that holds the artificial firewood, but don't remove anything. This bag is fuel to help start and burn the artificial log. Tearing open the ends allows oxygen to get to the fire to better fuel it as it burns the artificial firewood.

  4. Step 4

Place the artificial firewood on the log rack in the fireplace. Place it on the rack by itself until the fire catches on. Don't add paper or additional fuel as it isn't necessary and can cause a chimney fire.

  5. Step 5

Light the artificial firewood on each end of the flammable paper. It will meet in the middle and the artificial firewood will begin to burn. You can add real firewood to keep the fire going.

Tips & Warnings
  • Tie back long hair before lighting a fire. Keep furniture and other flammable items away from the fireplace.
  • Never leave artificial logs or real firewood unattended.
  • Never use more than one piece of artificial firewood at a time. This can produce more heat than your fireplace can handle, resulting in a chimney or house fire. This can also occur if you break up a log while it is burning.
