How to Refill Swiffer Bottles

Swiffer Wetjets are incredibly convenient, do a better job of cleaning thatn a string or sponge mop, and swivel to clean tight spaces. They're lightweight and take up little space. The cleaning solution is expensive, though! What to do? Refill the bottle, of course! Even though the packaging says you can't, it's quite easy to do so, and will save you a bundle!

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Bowl
  • Dish towel
  • Your favorite floor cleaner

Step1
Fill a bowl with hot, HOT water. Tap water probably won't cut it- microwave it or heat it on the stove instead.
Step2
Immerse the cap of the Swiffer bottle in the hot water for about a minute. This softens the plastic enough that the cap can be removed easily.
Step3
Wrap the dishtowel around the cap of the bottle to get a good grip, and twist hard. The cap should come right off.
Step4
Rinse the bottle thoroughly (you don't want to mix incompatible chemicals).
Step5
Fill 3/4 full with hot water. Add 2-3 tablespoons of your favorite cleaner- Murphy's Oil Soap, Pine-Sol, or Spic and Span all work well. Replace cap and shake bottle gently to combine.

Tips & Warnings

  • You can add essential oils to customize your floor cleaner's scent.
  • Never mix cleaners containing bleach and ammonia. Toxic fumes will result.
