Swiffer WetJets are lightweight convenient and swivel to clean tight spaces that string and damp mops can’t reach. The power mop uses disposable cleaning clothes and cleaning solution in a bottle sold to fit into the body of the mop. Even though the packaging says the bottles can’t be refilled, with little time and brute strength work the lid free and add your own favorite cleaning solution.
Things You'll Need
- Dish towel
- Floor cleaner
Fill a bowl or sink with very hot water.
Immerse the Swiffer bottle and cap in the hot water for about a minute. This softens the plastic enough so the cap can be removed easily.
Wrap the dishtowel around the cap of the bottle to get a good grip and twist hard. The cap should come right off.
Clean the bottle thoroughly to remove the Swiffer solution, which may not be compatible with your cleaning solution.
Fill the Swiffer bottle 3/4 full with hot water. Add 2-3 tablespoons of your favorite floor cleaner. Vinegar or a small amount of dish soap will also work. Replace cap and shake bottle gently to combine. Add essential oil to customize your floor cleaner's scent.
Tips & Warnings
- Create your own washable cleaning pads for the Swiffer from microfiber wash cloths.
- Never mix cleaners containing bleach and ammonia.
