The effects of diet on acne is a very controversial topic. Studies have not been able to prove that any foods cause or prevent acne. Contrary to popular belief, eating chocolate or greasy foods does not cause acne. However, some studies indicate that some people may be able to prevent acne through certain dietary changes. Since these changes are good for your overall health, it can not hurt to try.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Step1
Substitute soy milk for milk in your diet. You might want to also try eating cheese. and other products, made from soy instead of dairy. Dairy may be a contributing factor for acne in some people.
Step2
Cut back in foods that are high in iodine. Iodine is found in many types of fish and seafood. Reducing the amount of iodine in your diet may lessen the severity of your acne outbreaks, although it most likely won't prevent your from getting acne entirely.
Step3
Decrease the amount of foods that you eat that are high on the glycemic index. Potatoes are one of the highest glycemic index foods. Other high glycemic foods include soda, sweets and white bread.
Step4
Drink plenty of water to flush toxins out of your system and help to reduce or prevent acne.

Tips & Warnings

  • Some cosmetics can clog pores and lead to, or aggravate, acne. Cosmetics that clog pores are known as comedogenic products. When choosing cosmetics and moisturizers, look for those that are labeled "non-comedogenic."
  • Wash your face twice a day to open your pores, remove environmental pollutants from your skin and help to prevent acne.
