1
Surround yourself with friends who make you feel good. When a brother or sister makes you feel bad about yourself, ignore them by talking to a parent or friend who can help you remember all of your good qualities.
-
2
Sing a song to help you ignore your brother or sister. You may not have to go as far as sticking your fingers in your ears, but singing out loud to your self may not do the trick alone.

3
Read a book. Find a nice quiet place in the house that can help you take some time for yourself and help you ignore a brother or sister.
-
4
Get out of the house. If you have a friend who lives close, or you have the ability to walk, ride your bike or drive to a friend's house, do it. Giving your brother or sister some space can help you diffuse a particularly annoying episode.
-
5
Lock yourself in your room. When the poking or name-calling starts, this is a great way to remove yourself from the situation and ignore your brother or sister. Just make sure the lock is secure before you begin vegging out.

Talk to your parents. Siblings will rarely pick or prod you when your parents are around. Begin a lengthy conversation with a parental unit to ignore your brother or sister.
