Step 1
Get to know your proteins. Protein has proven to be the most beneficial macro nutrient in the diabetic's diet. It is believed that this is one nutrient that does not raise blood glucose levels. It seems to stimulate insulin release from the pancreas resulting in better control of glucose levels. Just be careful that your protein is not fatty. Look for lean meats, dairy proteins, seafood, beans and whole grains.
-
Step 2
Incorporate complex carbohydrates and nuts such as whole grains, oats, barley, wheat, brown rice and amaranth into your diet. Not only do they have protein and fiber, but also vitamins and minerals.
-
Step 3
Look for colorful vegetables and fruits: dark green leafy spinach, kale, collard greens, swiss chard, broccoli, deep red apples, pomegranates, radishes, peppers, orange yams, butternut squash, oranges, carrots. All of these are wonderful for your health.
-
Step 4
Drink water. Not soda, not fruit juice, not caffeinated drinks.
