How to Clean Metal Mini Blinds

Metal mini blinds attract fingerprints, dust and dirt.

Metal mini blinds are an attractive and durable way to block out light and increase privacy in your home. If tended to regularly, you can clean the blinds quickly with a bit of soap and warm water. If, however, you haven't cleaned the blinds in years, you may need to remove them to wash away all of the built-up dirt and grime. Clean metal mini blinds can breathe new life into your living room, bedroom or office.

Things You'll Need

• Lint-free cloth or sock
• Water
• Dish soap
• Bucket
• Car washing brush

1. Pour warm water into a bucket and add a few drops of dish soap. Mix the water and soap together.

2. Remove the metal mini blinds and take them outside. Lay the blinds on a large towel or outdoor mat.

3. Dip a car washing brush into the bucket. Scrub the mini blind slats with the soapy water, using a side-to-side motion. Flip the blinds over and repeat the washing on the other side.

4. Spray the blinds with a hose to remove all the dirt and soap. Run a towel or your hand down the slats to get rid of extra water, which can cause water spots and streaks.

5. Hang the mini blinds over a fence or outdoor chair and allow them to try before hanging them back up in the house.

Tips & Warnings

• If you have difficulty removing the mini blinds, blast them with hot air from a hair dryer.
