ARE YOUR BLINDS COVERED IN DUST & COBWEBS?ARE THE CORDS BROWN FROM DIRTY HANDS? A LITTLE TIME & EFFORT WILL HAVE THEM LOOKING NEW AGAIN.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • AMMONIA
  • HOT WATER
  • FLAT SCREWDRIVER

Step1
IT'S IMPORTANT TO TAKE DOWN YOUR BLINDS AT LEAST ONCE A YEAR, EVERYDAY DUSTING WILL ONLY LAST FOR SO LONG. TO REMOVE YOUR BLINDS, TAKE DOWN THE DRAPES IF YOU HAVE THEM. THEN NOTICE THAT THE BLINDS ARE ATTACHED TO BRACKETS IN EACH OF THE UPPER CORNERS OF THE WINDOW FRAME. THESE BRACKETS ARE ABOUT A 2" SQUARE WITH A "DOOR" THAT OPENS THE FRONT OF THE BRACKET. THE DOOR IS USUALLY A TIGHT FIT AND YOU MAY HAVE TO PRY IT OPEN WITH THE SCREWDRIVER. THE DOOR WILL OPEN FROM RIGHT TO LEFT.
Step2
MAKE SURE THAT YOU HAVE THE BLINDS PULLED UP TIGHT AND ONCE BOTH BRACKET DOORS ARE OPEN, PULL THE BLIND TOWARDS YOU AND IT WILL COME RIGHT OUT.
Step3
IF YOUR BLINDS ARE QUITE DIRTY YOU WILL WANT TO SOAK THEM. FILL YOUR BATHTUB WITH HOT WATER AND ADD 1/2 CUP AMMONIA. ALLOW THE BLINDS TO SOAK FOR AT LEAST ONE HOUR. YOU WILL WANT TO OPEN THE BLINDS A LITTLE BIT TO GET THE WATER ON ALL THE SLATS. WHEN THERE DONE SOAKING, DRAIN THE TUB AND RINSE THE BLINDS WITH THE SHOWER OR A LARGE CUP.
Step4
YOU'LL NEED TO LET THE BLINDS DRAIN OFF A BIT SO STAND THEM UP ON A TOWEL WHILE STILL IN THE TUB. IF YOU CAN TAKE YOUR BLINDS OUTSIDE TO DRY, DO SO AND OPEN THEM FULLY. I JUST LAY MINE ON THE GRASS OR PATIO TILL DRY. ONCE TOTALLY DRY YOU'LL BE AMAZED AT HOW GREAT THEY LOOK.

Tips & Warnings

  • WHILE YOUR BLINDS ARE DRYING IT'S A GREAT TIME TO WASH THE WINDOWS AND SHAKE OUT YOUR DRAPES OR EVEN WASH THE CURTAINS.
  • IF YOU NEED TO STAND ON A LADDER/STEPSTOOL TO REMOVE YOUR BLINDS, BE CAREFUL!CLEAN BLINDS ARE NOT WORTH FALLING.........

on 5/16/2008 It's actually very simple, isn't it? So I wonder... why didn't I think of that? :-) Great advice for cleaning my mini-blinds. Now it doesn't look like such a major production at all. Great!
