Step 1
Choose a place that would be perfect for a picnic. This should be a scenic, but open area, such as a city park or campground. There should be a pavilion to eat under and to escape the weather should a summer storm blow up. Take into consideration the children that will be there, and make sure there is ample room for them to run and play.

Step 2
Create a menu for the day. Fried chicken, corn and potatoes are always very popular dishes. However, a variety of food is always the best bet. Also, a great meal is never complete without delicious desserts.
-
Step 3
Invite all your closest friends and family to the event. Review the menu with the people you invite. Have them volunteer to bring something on the list. This will prevent you from having to do it all yourself.
-
Step 4
Decide on a time that will allow for you to enjoy most of the day at the event and that is convenient for everyone. If you decide the meal is going to be served at noon, tell everyone the event begins at 11 a.m. This gives everyone the opportunity to start socializing before the meal and allows plenty of time to enjoy the day afterwards.
