Scented dusting powder is easy to make and it can be a great gift idea if placed in a pretty container. Friends who are hard to buy for usually appreciate the time and thought that goes into this special, homemade gift. Many people enjoy using dusting powder, so chances are, this is a gift that would not just sit on a shelf. Making scented dusting powder is an inexpensive way to have unique and memorable gifts on hand for any occasion. Read on to learn how to make scented dusting powder gifts.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Three boxes of cornstarch
  • Half box of baking soda
  • Large plastic storage bags with tops that securely seal
  • Small vials of essential oils in your favorite scents
  • Cotton balls
  • Decorative containers
  • Large powder puffs
  1. Step 1

    Mix the three boxes of cornstarch and half box of baking soda together in a large bowl. If you want to make differently scented powders, divide the powder mixture between two or three plastic storage bags. If you want to make all the powder the same scent, put the powder all in one storage bag.

  2. Step 2

    Place three or four cotton balls saturated with essential oil each bag. You can put more than one scent in a bag if you like the way two or three scents blend together.

  3. Step 3

    Seal the tops of the bags and shake the dusting powder well. Leave the bags sealed for five days, shaking each well twice a day.

  4. Step 4

    Pour the dusting powder into decorative containers and add a powder puff on top.

Tips & Warnings
  • Glass or crystal candy dishes with flat bottoms make wonderful containers for these dusting powder gifts. Once the powder is gone, the container can be washed and re-used for something else. Unique candy dishes can usually be found at inexpensive prices.
  • Decorative round tins found at thrift or antique stores also make a great dusting powder container.
  • Be sure your container has a lid.
  • If using a container like a candy dish that does not have a snap on lid, use tape on each side of the lid or wrap the whole container with ribbon to secure it while wrapping or transporting.
