If you can crochet a square, you can crochet American Girl doll clothes. It's easy. All you need is a little time, and the right pattern. In fact any pattern suitable for an 18 inch doll will fit an American Girl doll. Here's a pattern to crochet a simple skirt for your American Girl doll.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Worsted weight yarn
  • Crochet hook
  1. Step 1

Make the waistband of the skirt by chaining four stitches, and working in single crochet stitches (three stitches per row) until the piece would wrap easily around your American Girl doll's waist.

  2. Step 2

Sew the edges of the waistband together so that you form a tube.

  3. Step 3

Add a row of single crochet along the edge of the tube you just sewed. Your stitches should occur between the rows on the tube. Chain three at the end of the row and turn.

  4. Step 4

Work the next row in this pattern: One double crochet in one stitch, two double crochet in the next stitch. Complete the row using this pattern.

  5. Step 5

Complete the next four rows using only double crochet stitches. This will keep your American Girl doll's skirt from ruffling out too far.

  6. Step 6

Use a triple crochet stitch in the next two rows.

  7. Step 7

Fasten off your yarn, and you're done.

Tips & Warnings
  • Consider using a piece of ribbon at the top of your skirt. Simply get a matching ribbon that is one-fourth inch wide. Weave it through the loops that formed between rows at the top of the skirt, and you've made a cute drawstring.
