Step1

Clean your carpet by removing pre-existing stains and vacuuming.

Step2

Find a clean spray bottle.

Step3

Grab a bottle of fabric softener from your laundry supplies.

Step4

Measure out and mix one part of fabric softener to five parts of warm water.

Step5

Use a plastic funnel to pour the mixture into the spray bottle.

Step6

Close the bottle and set the bottle's nozzle to its "mist" setting or the equivalent.

Mist the carpet lightly with the solution.

Section the parts of your treated carpet. Provide alternate routes through the room so that the carpet isn't walked on. Temporarily move light furniture around the area to reroute paths.

Let your carpet dry undisturbed overnight.

Vacuum your carpet the next day.

Move your furniture back into place.
