How many eggshells do you throw away? Try saving them and use them to start seedlings. A tray of eggshells that have been sown with seedlings makes a wonderful gift. This is also a great activity to do with kids. Not only is it simple, once you are ready to plant, you can just put the whole eggshell in the ground or pot. Read on to learn more.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Selection of seeds
  • Eggs or eggshells (at least half of the shell intact)
  • Scissors or knife

  • Egg carton
  • Spoon

  1. Step 1

Use scissors or the tip of a knife to crack of the top of an egg.

  2. Step 2

Empty out the egg (reserve the egg for cooking) and create a drainage hole in the button by piercing it with a pin or needle.

Set the eggshells in a carton and use a spoon to fill it with a seed starting mix.

  4. Step 4

It is best to use one or two seeds per shell. Be sure to follow the instructions of the seed package for planting depth.
