Step1
Glass top table decorated with beach theme postcards
Gather up all the tropical or nautical theme items you can find. Having more than you need is okay, it will give you options on changing things around if you don't like a particular look.
Step2
Add some tropical or nautical items
If you have a glass topped side table, dressing it up with a few tropical or nautical theme postcards, photographs or even magazine pictures is very simple.
Lift up the glass and arrange postcards, photographs or magazine pictures or a combination of images in a overlapping pattern. Use as many or as few as you like. Place the glass back over the top of the table being sure to keep the images away from edges of the table and under the glass for a more finished look.
Step3
Two ships added
Simply start placing a few items on the tabletop, just use a few so that you don't completely cover up the images under the glass. Here I started with a couple of ships that were found at a flea market.
You could just place a few candles in the center or off to one side and it will nice, especially when the candles are lit.
Step4
Two ships, a starfish candle holder and a vintage mermaid fish tank ornament
I then added a starfish candle holder and a vintage mermaid fish tank ornament. Mix and match you items or use the same item in different sizes or colors, it will look if you stick to a theme.
Step5
A corner shelf decorated with tropical theme items
Place items that you like, and arrange in a way that pleases you. You could use just one item alone or one item and a few natural seashells.
Step6
A towel shelf decorated with shells and starfish and candle holders
I used a corner shelf and simply loaded it with a tropical theme print, a vintage mermaid fish tank ornament, some greenery that would normally be used in a fish tank, some natural seashells and a vintage Avon mermaid bottle filled with blue colored bath crystals.
With the blue painted walls as a backdrop it gives the shelf the feel of being at the bottom of the sea.
Step7
A built in shelf decorated with vintage fishing floats and other tropical items
This towel hook shelf was easy. I used a piece of mermaid theme border left over from another project, added three starfish, one being a starfish candle, two palm tree candle holders and a couple of natural shells found on a Florida Beach.
Step8
This awkward built in shelf behind the toilet was easy to do. I just added all the tropical and nautical items I could find to fill it up.
I used another left over mermaid theme piece of border as a backdrop on the bottom shelf and then I placed a collection of vintage glass fishing floats, a decorator fishing net tied off to one side as a curtain, a candle or two, a small dolphin painting done by a friend. The wall and shelf area was previously painted the same color as the bathroom walls and it all ties in well with the rest of the bathroom.
Step9
Not shown in the photos are a few candles placed around the bathroom, one on the sink area, A dolphin soap dispenser, a mermaid print and a tropical beach theme print on the wall and a dark blue velvet valance over the window.
I used plastic removable vinyl clings of fish and tropical sea themes on the bottom and edges of the mirrors to dress them up a bit. On large mirrored doors that cover a large closet I placed a few vinyl cling fish in pairs to fill up the large mirrored space and to add visual interest and added throw rugs to the floor in the same dark blue color as the curtain.
Keeping to the color scheme of sea green, brown and blues gives the whole room a relaxed feel.
