How to Decorate for a Mother's Day Brunch

2. Decorate with the colors of the season. Fill the room with light, spring pastels or your mother's favorite hue. Place a clear vase in the center of each table and fill them with fresh spring flowers, such as lilacs, tulips or daisies. If the flower you choose is not in bloom yet, order some from a local florist who can import them.

3. Have an outdoor brunch if weather allows. Put together a small canopy or a gazebo-style tent to eat under. Have the lady of the day sit in the middle so that everyone can see her and enjoy her company.

4. Stick with the same color for all of the china, but do mix up their shapes and designs for an interesting look. Pick up inexpensive bowls, plates and dessert dishes at a restaurant supply store or at an antique market.

6. Designate an area for presents and favors. Set up a medium-sized table and cover it with fabric or paper in a different color than the cloths for the dining tables. Everybody loves a take-home gift, so fill a wicker basket or vintage basin with ladies gloves or little tins with cookies inside. Place the basket or basin in the center of the table so that guests can choose a gift from them as a keepsake.
