If you are having a party or large get-together of any sort, you can barbecue a roast beef on your backyard grill. There is no simpler way to cook barbecue for a crowd than by using a roast. Just prepare, preheat and have beef cooked to perfection!

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Things You’ll Need:

  • Roast beef
  • Salad dressing or steak sauce
  • Rub recipe
  • Rotisserie attachment for grill
  • Drip pan

Step1
Purchase a roast for barbecuing. You can purchase a premium rotisserie roast (highest quality), rotisserie roast, premium oven roast or oven roast. Buy one big enough for the group for which you are cooking.
Step2
Pierce the roast all over with a fork if using the non-premium variety.
Step3
Decide whether to use a rub on your beef roast. You can either use a rub recipe or take your favorite seasonings and rub them into the surface of the roast.
Step4
Marinate the roast in lieu of using a dry rub. Use a specially picked recipe or simply use a bottle of salad dressing or steak sauce that you like. Place the roast in a plastic zipper bag or other container and coat it in sauce. Make sure the entire roast is covered, and chill it in the fridge overnight.
Step5
Remove the roast from the fridge. Insert a meat thermometer (designed to stay in the meat throughout the cooking process) 3 inches into the center of the roast.
Step6
Preheat the grill to medium-high or 400 degrees F.
Step7
Cook the roast by rotisserie by installing your barbecue's rotisserie attachment and inserting the spit through the center of the roast. Hold it in place with the holding forks, then tighten and insert the spit into the rotisserie ends on the grill. Place a drip pan under the roast to catch melting fat.
Step8
Cook the roast without a rotisserie by placing a drip pan on one side of the grill and turning off the burner under the pan. Place the roast on the side above the drip pan.
Step9
Close the top of the barbecue and cook according to weight. The roast tastes best when cooked to medium rather than well done(or 155 degrees F). Cook the roast approximately 25 to 30 minutes per pound.
Step10
Remove the roast from the grill and place it on a cutting board covered with foil for 15 minutes to seal in the juices. Cut the netting off the roast and slice for serving.

Tips & Warnings

  • Prepare and cook the meat using sanitary means. Wash your hands and any other surfaces that come in contact with raw beef.
