You can add to this recipe for your taste but this is a great recipe

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 7 cups quick cooking oats
  • 1 cup wheat germ
  • 1 cup wheat bran
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup sugar or substitute with artificial or applesauce
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon ground nutmeg (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup chopped dates or raisins (preferred)
  • 1 cup chopped pecans or almonds (optional)
  • 1 cup flaked coconut (optional)
  • Can also add dried fruits like cranberries, apricots, bananas ect.
  1. Step 1

Preheat your oven to 275 degrees F

  2. Step 2

In a large bowl, mix oats, wheat germ, and wheat bran.

  3. Step 3

In a medium bowl, blend brown sugar, sugar (or substitute or applesauce), vegetable oil (can also substitute applesauce for the oil too), honey, and water. Mix in vanilla extract, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Stir the brown sugar mixture into the oat mixture until evenly moist, and transfer to a large, shallow baking dish.

  4. Step 4

Bake 45 minutes in the preheated oven, stirring every 15 minutes, until lightly brown. Mix dates or raisins, pecans or almonds , any dried fruits you desire and coconut into the dish, and continue baking about 15 minutes. Allow to cool, and store into airtight containers.

  5. Step 5

Give yourself a reward because you can save money making your own cereal rather than paying up to 6 dollars a box. This can be fun for the kids too!

Tips & Warnings
  • Make sure you allow to cool completely before storage so it doesn't get soggy from heat contained.
  • Warning this can help you save money........
