Use matching shoe polish to cover the scuffed area. Buff in a circular motion with a lint-free cloth. Let rest for five minutes. Buff off any excess with the cloth.

Use leather conditioner to treat any smaller scuff marks. Use a lint-free cloth to dab the conditioner on and gently rub in.

Tips & Warnings

  • You can also try eye make-up remover for this, but some are oil-based and can leave oil residue on your shoes.

  • The Clinique Clarifying Lotion #2 works the best out of all of the Clarifying Lotions because it isn't too harsh or too weak.

  • Try buying a small size Clarifying Lotion and then ask the sales associate if they have a small sample bottle that you can use for traveling. This way you can carry a small bottle with you or keep it in your vehicle.

Good question Karen. Not all clarifying lotion or other astringents contain witch hazel. Using regular witch hazel can leave your shoes looking dried, streaked, or tired looking. I have found that the combination of ingredients in Clinique's #2 lotion worked the best. Plus, a little bit goes a long way, so a large bottle will last a long time (if stored properly). Thanks for the comment!

sounds great. just wish to know: isn't all clarifying solution primarily made of witch hazel? that's a lot less expensive, if clinique's main ingredient is witch hazel, purchased at any drug store.
