Faux leather walls are a fun way to add interest and dimension to any room in your home. You can easily create faux leather walls in your home without using any paint. Stain can be used to add dimension at the end, but this is option in the DIY faux leather walls.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Paper bags
  • Wall paper glue
  • Paintbrush
  • Squeegee
  • Stain (optional)
  • Varnish (optional)
  1. Step 1

Rip your paper grocery bags into large pieces about 5 inches by 5 inches. They do not have to be perfect, and can be any shapes you want.

  2. Step 2

Prepare you wall by removing any nails, hanging devices, or loose or peeling paint on the wall.

  3. Step 3

Mix your wallpaper paste in a bucket or paint tray. Any brand of wallpaper paste will work.

  4. Step 4

Dip a large four-inch paint brush in the wallpaper paste. Paint the mixture onto the back of one of the squares of paper grocery bag you ripped out.

  5. Step 5

Press the paper bag against your wall. Star in the middle of the wall and work your way out covering the whole wall. After you place the paper on the wall you can paint over the front of it again to press it into place.

  6. Step 6

Cover about a 2 foot square area, then press the paper down to force out any air bubbles.

  7. Step 7

Work your way out covering the whole wall. As you reach the edges you will need to use an X-acto knife to cut edges.

  8. Step 8

Lay the edge pieces into place. Press the paper into the edge or corner of the faux leather wall. Side your knife along the edge that needs to be cut. Let your faux leather wall dry.

  9. Step 9

Paint on a coat of clear satin sealer to get a lightly shiny or satin look. Any acrylic furniture sealer will work.

Tips & Warnings
  • Paint with a color mixed with equal parts glaze to make a leather wall treatment in, say, red and hunter green.
  • Open the windows when applying the satin clear coat of paint. Acrylic is less smelly than oil paint, but still has a strong odor.
  • Be sure to use the plain side or inside of the paper grocery bag to create the faux leather wall. Words and adds will not work here.
