How to Change a Door Hinge

Sometimes the hinges on a door get loose or bent and it becomes necessary to replace them. This is a pretty simple task when the following steps are taken. Read on to learn how to change a door hinge.

Things You'll Need:

• Phillips head or Flat head screwdriver
• New hinge

1. Open door and remove screws from the hinges.

2. Take the old hinge to a local hardware store to purchase a matching hinge.

3. Remove new hinge from package and place in existing slot.

4. Install hinge by placing screws in the existing holes.

Tips & Warnings

• Be certain to buy same type of replacement hinges.
• If replacing more than one hinge do them one at a time.
• Having someone to help you hold the door makes this task much easier.
• Put a shoe or something heavy in front of door while working on it to hold open.
