How to Update Your Powder Room Decor on a Budget

The smallest room in the house can be stylish and "wow!" with some inexpensive decor ideas and minimal effort. Update your powder room to make it a room to impress your guests.

Instructions

1. Flip through some decorating magazines to come up with ideas that mesh with your style and budget.

2. Apply a fresh coat of paint, whether in a new color or just a new coat of the original color. Even if the rest of your house is painted classic neutrals, consider color with punch for your powder room.

3. Hang some wall art. Groupings of smaller prints or items often look better in little rooms, and they're less expensive to purchase.

4. Use "found" objects creatively. For example, if you choose a garden theme for your bathroom, use a garden pail for a trash can, a little watering can to hold fresh or silk flowers, a toy metal wheelbarrow as a soap dish.

5. Match any candle scents to the season or theme. Spicy apple for fall, lilac for spring or garden decor.

6. Add a new set of lotion and soap dispensers.

7. Drape an updated hand towel on the towel bar. It should coordinate with the theme and/or colors of the room.

8. Replace cabinet knobs.

9. Update your sink faucet and handles, if your budget allows.

10. Don't limit your shopping to the "usual stores." Vintage and antique stores, estate sales and online auctions are key places to find accessories and decor.
